Originally from the Puglia region in Southern Italy, Roberto brings a Mediterranean perspective shaped by empathy, cultural awareness, and a strong belief in the value of collaboration. Their professional journey reflects a consistent commitment to connecting people, disciplines, and ideas in order to drive meaningful innovation.
Roberto began their academic path in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Bari, motivated by a desire to understand the scientific foundations of life-saving medicines. They later pursued a PhD in Nanotechnology and Materials Science at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Their post-doctoral research focused on cancer biosensing, demonstrating a continued dedication to applying scientific research to areas of significant societal impact.
Professionally, Roberto has worked within healthcare and pharmaceutical consultancy before becoming actively involved in the Open Access movement. During their leadership tenure at Frontiers, they advocated for broader accessibility to scientific knowledge, supporting initiatives that promote transparency, integrity, and ethical publishing standards. As Editor in Chief at Arcadia, they bring a strong commitment to editorial quality, ethical rigor, and strategic vision.
Roberto is fluent in Italian and English, with working proficiency in French and Spanish. Their interests extend beyond their core scientific expertise to include literature, continuous professional development, and project management studies.
In addition to their professional commitments, Roberto is an active member of a running club and maintains a strong dedication to lifelong learning.
