About
Carlos Loaeza is a writer and filmmaker born in 1997 in central Mexico. Since he was a
movie-loving child, he entertained himself by creating short stories and filming sword
battles with him and his neighbors wielding Star Wars lightsabers. His passion for taking
a camera and filming fiction led him to move to Mexico City and start his studies in
Filmmaking at Arte7. Later on, he took a masterclass by the Oscar-nominated
scriptwriter Guillermo Arriaga at the University of Communication, and finally, a BA in
Digital Animation at Amerike College as a way to introduce himself to animation and
VFX narrative scriptwriting.
Shortly after finishing his major, he wrote and co-produced a comedy web-series for
YouTube called F, inspired by what Seinfeld would be in modern times. His work as a
screenwriter for short films was awarded in Rome and Manchester, obtaining the Best
Screenplay award in VerticalMovies Film Festival and The Paus Film Festival,
respectively.
After the Great Lockdown took over, he decided to leave the big city and settled in Playa
del Carmen, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, where he learned Italian and
French. He has been traveling as a digital nomad since then, settling in California for a
while and currently in Montréal, seeking a more culturally enriching approach than he
could ever find in books.
As a complement to his education, he has taken online courses from:
• California Institute of the Arts
• Tel Aviv University
As an avid reader, he has the hobby of writing short stories every day as a creative
exercise. He currently writes comic scripts in collaboration with independent illustrators
and has a personal project of developing a travel magazine based in Playa del Carmen.
His specialty areas are:
• Scriptwriting & cinematography
• History
• Travel
• Culture
