Gery Ciftcioglu


Gery Ciftcioglu, was born in Bulgaria. She received her degree in Journalism from Varna Free University in 2002. While still a student she worked as an English translator and a journalist for a local newspaper.

In 2003 she relocated to Istanbul where she completed a course with the British Council and the University of Cambridge and was awarded a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA).

From 2005-2007 she worked as an EFL teacher and Deputy Director of Studies at the International House and English First Institute, both renowned international language schools. She taught various levels and tutored students of all ages but specialized in Business English lessons.

In 2007 she began teaching Academic English at university. Gery Ciftcioglu joined a Medical School in 2009 and contributed both to the preparatory school and the Medical English Department. In 2010 she became a full-time faculty member of the Medical English Team where she was a major contributor to the curriculum development of the Medical English program.

Since 2018 Gery Ciftcioglu has been working as an online freelancer tutoring students with various online language schools, delivering individual Business English lessons and writing for life-style magazines.

Throughout her career she has been interested in language acquisition, teaching styles and methodology as well as copywriting and content creation. Gery Ciftcioglu has published at EALTY, a magazine with the European Association of Language Teachers for healthcare. She has also delivered presentations at various English language conferences and created numerous digital and classroom language learning materials.

Gery is passionate about reading, psychology, parenting, art, spirituality, windsurfing, swimming and yoga.
